Discover the beauty of Secret Belgian Binding, a striking book structure celebrated for its elegant woven spine and intriguing construction. Both decorative and functional, this distinctive binding creates a beautiful handmade book that opens comfortably and invites endless creative possibilities.
During this one-day workshop, you will explore the fascinating weaving and assembly process while creating your own unique book from start to finish. A specially prepared materials kit will be provided, so you can simply enjoy the making process and leave at the end of the day with a completed hand-bound book to treasure.

In the supplied kit….
· cartridge paper(130gsm) for book sections – already cut and pressed
· 2.4mm box boards for book covers - two pieces for front and back cover and a spine piece
· Chelsea book cloth
· bookbinding needle
· bookbinding thread – Waxed Linen 18/3 and 18/5
· #15 surgical blade
· PVA glue – to share
· Bookbinding awl – to share (If you want to buy it is $7)
· Punching jig and corrugated cardboard piece
· Masking tape to share

Items you will bring…
· Glue brush – cheap round hog bristle brush, for example, Stencil brushes
· Cutting mat and utility knife
· Scalpel knife holder #3 ( if you have)
· Metal ruler
· Some glossy junk mail for gluing
· A magazine or something for protecting table when you make holes with awl
· Scissors
· Bone folder (or paper knife is OK)
· Usual note taking materials (note, pencil, pen)
*Our book will be A5 size portrait direction. There will be enough in the kit to make one in the class and make another one at home.
*If you are familiar with the paper grain in bookbinding, you are welcome to bring your own paper (folded and pressed). It should be no bigger than A4 size. 4-6 sections will be enough.
